A girl has two legs to walk beyond the kitchen A girl has two eyes to use beyond home A girl has energy to fetch more than firewood A girl has ability to carry more than water Educate a girl, educate the whole family. Mathematics is not too poisonous to us English is not too foreign to us The Sciences are not too strange to us The Arts are not too scaring to us Educate a girl, educate the whole family. Management just requires skill, not gender Teaching just requires dedication, not gender Nursing just requires understanding, not gender Banking just requires accuracy, not gender Educate a girl, educate the whole family. Educate those despised but tender-hearted humans Educate those future mothers to educate future families Educate those delicate but serious beings Educate those neglected but wanting persons Educate a girl, educate the whole nation. Thanks to Hoopers Africa Trust by: Chepkurui As a beneficiary of Hoopers Africa Trust, I am so glad and grateful to say thanks for your support to help me continue with my education. Since I never had any hope in my life that I would get a chance like this of which it would help me to have a vision of my future life. Thanks a lot and I know your effort to up bring me through education will be of great benefit to me, my family and society at large. I promise to struggle in my studies so that I will not be like anybody but somebody in future. Advice to fellow colleagues Let us turn our academic ambitions and vision into concrete reality through working hard. Bear in mind that this is a world of certificates, qualification and establishing careers but not a world of dreams without papers. Hoping for success without working hard is like boiling plain water expecting food so remember that fruits of education are sweet but its roots are bitter and to overcome this is just to work hard and being disciplined. Always remember that decision we make today will be determine our tomorrow. The good decision to make is through education since “Education is the key to life”. Let us have objectives in life to help us prioritise. Any activity that do not help us to achieve our objectives should be last in our priorities. Our priority now should be education and let’s take it ahead. “Backward never forward ever”. Professors, doctors and teachers were built by books and if we work hard we would be built the same way. If others can make it, why not us?... My dear colleagues I really urge you to struggle for success so that our sponsors will see that we have appreciated their help. Appreciation by: Josephine May I take this opportunity briefly to thank you for the good work you are doing for me as a beneficiary of Hoopers Africa Trust. Secondly, may I submit my contribution towards the newsletter. This is a very good opportunity you have initiated for us in order to be communicating with our colleagues. To my fellow colleagues It is high time we realised that in school we are sojourners, we there for education and we are responsible for our action, whatever it may be necessary to do should be done in honour. The truth is, we must accomplish our mission through our hardworking. Education is sweeter to youth as it prevents us from early marriages. If you like it you will enjoy it, if you make relationship with books, respect yourself, be disciplined, obedient and determined and let nobody make you have involve in love. Living in today’s world you have to be educated and even education is the key to the future life most to us girls. The end results of education is not a certificate as some of us think but it is to establish a career. Basically you are building a platform for the future, for the rest of your life you will be associated with your education and your basic education forms, the basic foundation on which other opportunities are built. Do not let the environment where you live undermine your ability but always try to open your mind and eyes and break through the surrounding as it can lead you into making your dreams into realities as in field work study where the researcher next the myths/theories learn in class into realities. Moreover, on your way to success there are many challenges that are facing your life, some of the challenges have positive effects while some of them are having negatives hence my advice to that is get advice from elders on the experienced person or from the guide and counselling people but the decision is you to make it, as some people make wrong decision for other people with an aim of making them to fail in all his/her life because that may be their own wants. Finally, I wish you all the best in your academic performance and never think of being a housewife before you reach your finishing point of what you have studied which will help you to pursue your career because God has a bright future for you be bless through your education.

But somehow this has not benefited everybody in the society. Bravo! to trustees who are sacrificing a lot of their time to run the charity for the benefit of the poor girls. So my colleagues, let it be our endeavour, to work hard and do our best. For the success is for the chosen few who struggle for it. Our future is bright if only work towards making it so, for every good deed there is a reward. Quote: When you are down to nothing, God is up to something.

Josephine C - Egerton University, Njoro Campus I am very grateful to the Hoopers Africa Trust who has lent a hand. I have finished secondary school through the assistance of the charity and now have joined Egerton University in August 2011; pursuing Bachelor of Arts (History and Kiswahili). This far, I thank God. During my vacation that began on January to April I was at Abossi High School (near our home) teaching History, Kiswahili and Agriculture. I used this opportunity to give back to my community during my free time and encourage other young girls to go to school. I urge my colleagues to always look for something constructive to do, during their free time. “Idle mind is a devil’s workshop.” It has come to my realisation that it doesn’t matter where one’s home is, but what matters is his/her determination and hard work to achieve your goals. I quote: ‘If you can dream it, you will achieve it.’
